Down to the woods

The flash of sales signs. Twinkling lights. Windows lit up with glittering gift ideas. Every Christmas we are inundated with gaudy advertising, but for many this year would be a solitary, even sombre, celebration.

For Miansai, we decided to offer a more subtle, elegant and natural approach to the festive season. Rather than resorting to traditional gimmicks, a soft glow among undecorated trees brings a hint of Christmas while we rely on the models themselves to evoke that warm, fuzzy feeling. Blocks and curls of wood provide texture and form, as we translate this “woodland” setting into a series of still lifes, and while the earthy tones and imperfections of marble are visually aligned, its glassy surface elevates the “fine” collection to a more sophisticated mood.
