Ways of sitting

Perched on the edge, cross-legged, lounging or upright … every time you take a seat, your body is communicating something to the people around you. Your posture can reflect warmth, arrogance, confidence or insecurity; your position offering an invitation or a threat. We call it body language. This series isn’t just about sitting at all, but rather about exploring and unlocking the creative potential of the body as it interacts with the latest Miansai collection.

The still life campaign explores the multiple facets our jewellery holds. Playing with delicate metallic pins, we transform each piece into a miniature chair or stool. Much like the furniture in a dollhouse, the delicacy of each arrangement invites the viewer to play and interact with the piece, admiring its exquisite form and craftsmanship. For the model shoot we turn to surrealism to evoke emotion. Distorting the dimensions, the models sit, lounge or lean on the oversized pieces, their gestures enhancing the unique detail of each piece.

We wanted to create something a little more intangible for the video campaign – to transmit a mood or a feeling. The models sit on a train as it passes through the wild hills and lochs of the Scottish highlands. Their faces are highlighted against their black clothing with muted shades of grey, green and purple visible in the distance. Where are they going? What are they thinking? What does their body language tell us as they sit gazing out the window?
